Convent house
The Convent House is located in Purísima Street and is a great example of Modernist architecture, dating from the end of the 19th century.
The building, popularly known as ‘Casa Convento’ or ‘Casa Palazón’, was built on the initiative of Don Juan Palazón Herrero and his wife María Pagán Palazón. As they had no children, they donated it to the Sisterhood of the Crucified Christ in 1963, with the sole condition that it be used for education. To this end, after the death of the couple, a convent and a school run by the Sisters of the Crucified Christ was established.
The Palazón House or Convent House is an important landmark in the monumental architectural heritage of Fortuna, constituting the best and most complete exponent of the modernist style in the town. It contains a large number of valuable objects such as a collection of original furniture and utensils.
It is a rectangular, two-storey building organised around a courtyard. It is also worth mentioning:
- The old library.
- The trousseaus.
- The former ballroom, now converted into a chapel.
