Fountain of the Church of Saint Roch

It is not clear
when the fountain of Saint Roch
was built.
Studies suggest that it may have been
between the 17th and 18th centuries.

Nowadays the fountain
is in front of the Hermitage of Saint Roch,
but before it was somewhere else.
When they wanted to make
the area where the fountain was bigger,
they dismantled it piece by piece
and set it up where it is now.
The fountain was used a lot.
As time went by, some parts
of the fountain broke.
When it was dismantled
it was very deteriorated,
so it was also restored.

The present fountain is made of stone.
It has a plaque in the centre,
but it is difficult to read what it says.
It also has a semicircular basin.

In the basin is the tap
where the water used to come out.

The fountain was an important place
for the people of Fortuna.
The neighbours used to meet there
for various things.
For example: playing, meeting
or fetch water.
