The Virgen de la Purísima (Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception)

The Convent House
is in Purísima Street.
It is a great example
of modernist style in Fortuna.
The Convent house is also known
as Palazón’s House.

It was built at the end of the 19th century.
Don Juan Palazón Herrero and his wife
María Pagán Palazón lived there.
As they had no children, they donated the house
to the Hermandad del Cristo Crucificado
(Sisterhood of the Crucified Christ) in 1963.
In exchange, the sisterhood
had to use the building to educate
the children of the village.
Thus, the sisterhood built
a convent and a school.

The Convent House is an important building
in the history of Fortuna.
Inside there are many valuable objects,
such as furniture and original objects.
The building has a rectangular shape,
two floors and a central courtyard.
Other highlights include:

• The old library.

• The trousseaus

• The former ballroom, which is now a chapel.
