Fountain

After the Lugar Alto fountain dried up in 1792, in 1880 a new fountain and a washing place were built at the same time.

One of the most characteristic features of the current fountain are its painted tiles, which depict scenes from Abanilla tradition, such as the pilgrimage of the Santa Cruz with its patron, the harvesting of esparto grass and its subsequent manufacture. In Abanilla, the esparto grass industry was the main local economic engine until the mid-20th century.
