Fountain

The fountain of Abanilla
was built in 1880.
Next to the new fountain,
the new washhouse was also built.

Before this fountain, there was
another fountain in Lugar Alto hill.
The Lugar Alto fountain
dried up in 1792.

It is decorated with painted tiles.
The tiles depict
traditional scenes of Abanilla.
For example: the pilgrimage of the Holy Cross,
people collecting esparto and people
working with esparto grass.
Esparto grass was the main business
of the town until the mid-20th century.
