Historic Xàbia
Hermitage of Saint John and 18th-19th Century CemeteryThe Hermitage of Saint John is one of Xàbia’s oldest monuments (15th-16th centuries). After several centuries as a hermitage, it became the funeray chapel for the the new cemetery in 1817, owing to its adjacent location. Archaeological excavations carried out in 2010 uncovered 30 graves dated between 1817 and 1849. Several funeray ceramic panels, originally from the chapel, were also found; these have been restored and reinstalled in the hermitage.
