GRANDE RIVER – SAN ISIDRO HERMITAGE AREA
Built in 1992 in Andalusian style, the hermitage features a central niche where, during the pilgrimage days, the image of San Isidro Labrador—the patron saint of farmers—is placed. It is located on the banks of the Río Grande.
During the first days of the second half of May, Guaro celebrates the traditional San Isidro pilgrimage to his hermitage by the Río Grande, recalling the times when the saint was paraded in honor of the farmers.
The Río Grande is a tributary of the Guadalhorce River, born in the very heart of the Sierra de las Nieves. The stretch that runs through Guaro corresponds to its middle course, an area of high environmental value. Its waters flow year-round, supporting rich riverside vegetation and diverse fauna.
