GUARO
The Parish Church of San Miguel Arcángel is one of Guaro’s most important monuments. Located in the heart of the old town, just a few meters from the Town Hall and the Fountain of San Isidro Labrador, the temple was built on the site of an old mosque in 1505 and has since been renovated twice. It has a Latin cross floor plan without side aisles. On the façade, you can see the image of Saint Michael, and to its right, the bell tower.
Two other notable religious buildings are the hermitages of Cruz del Puerto and San Isidro, the latter located beside the Río Grande in a eucalyptus grove. From the Cruz del Puerto Hermitage, visitors can enjoy exceptional panoramic views of the surroundings, while inside it houses one of the most venerated images among the locals, the Cristo de Limpias.
Also worth highlighting is the Al-Andalus Cultural Center and its Ethnographic Olive Oil Museum, which preserves a 12th-century Arab olive press. The aim of this space is to showcase the municipality’s value as a traditional olive producer since the Al-Andalus period. On the same theme, the Marmolejo Olive Oil Museum exhibits a collection of tools and machinery from Guaro’s former oil mills.
