Joaquín Sorolla Promenade
The great Valencian painter Joaquim Sorolla i Bastida (1863–1923) first discovered Xàbia on October 7, 1896. The purpose of his visit was to seek inspiration in the vineyard terraces, as he had been commissioned to create several panels on the theme of grape harvesting. However, upon arriving in Xàbia, he found an incomparable landscape: striking contrasts between the sea and the mountains, crystal-clear waters, and a radiant light that he captured masterfully in many of his works.
To commemorate the 125th anniversary of his arrival in Xàbia, the seafront promenade has been named Passeig Joaquim Sorolla, and a life-size sculpture of the painter has been installed there.
