THE TRENCHES

Located in Las Dueñas area, from Alcublas you take the CV245 highway, directioned to Altura until “La Balsilla” (2km from Alcublas) where you take the detour to Sacañet along the CV235 and about 2.5 kilometers away you will find the dirt road on the left along which access the trenches site.
In a landscape of scrubland and crop fields, you can see a network of defensive systems composed in principle of four warlike structures with associated trenches intended for the defense of the entrance road to Teruel as well as the hills located in front of them. Thus, walking from the dirt road we can see a first section of trench that gives access to a cave-combat shelter that once we crossed houses a machine gun nest. This complex shows a very important defensive line, which was part of the front that from Andilla, passing through Canales and Sacañet to Alcublas, formed a rear defense line that would later be known as the Intermediate Line. This complex has recently been recovered, however its conservation is difficult due to the mountain’s own erosion.
A few meters away along the same access road you can also visit the Sabuquera Cave, a natural sinkhole that was used as a snowfield for the collection and subsequent trade of snow or ice.
