The Enchanted Stone
The Enchanted Stone is a unique rock formation that appears to be balanced in an almost impossible way, on the verge of falling. It has a more or less ovoid shape, about 2 metres in diameter, and is located at El Picayo, a rocky outcrop on the edge of the urban area, at the rim of the gorge of the Arroyo de Abengibre. Its particular unstable balance, due to erosion and its strategic position on a very small base, gives it an almost magical appearance and is the origin of the local legend.
According to tradition, on the Night of San Juan, if someone approached alone and in silence at midnight, the stone would open and a beautiful woman dressed in white, with long blonde hair, would emerge from it. However, the legend warns that whoever saw her face would soon die.
Beyond the legend, the Enchanted Stone is a recommended place to visit due to its impossible balance and the impressive views over La Cañada, with the nearby Pino de Juan Molinera visible in the distance. Over time, many people, including the local youths, have tried to move it as a display of strength, but fortunately no one has succeeded, and it remains a symbol of the municipality.
The path leading to it is ideal for hiking, offering panoramic views of the natural surroundings of La Cañada.
