ALCUBLAS’ TOWN HALL

The Chapter House is the headquarters of the Alcublas Town Council, located on Calle Mayor. The building has a ground floor and two upper levels. The work is made of masonry with smooth walls and highlights the imposing semicircular arch that frames the main wooden door. Crowning this door we can see the carving of the year of construction of the building: 1603, as well as the coat of arms of the Council that is preserved as the coat of arms of Alcublas. It is a unique public building, possibly one of the oldest town halls in the province that still performs the function for which it was designed.

Despite the inscription of 1603, there are references that place its origin in 1599 and the end of its work in 1619 (Alcaide, J.L.). It preserves many of the original structures made of the famous Alcublas stone, from the La Pedrera quarry, such as the arch that separates the two main spaces on the ground floor or the staircase. It also preserves the wooden beams on the three floors, the first housing the plenary hall and the second, a chamber that is currently used as an exhibition space.
