The "Quejigar del Tollo"
The “Quejigar del Tollo” is a natural area of great botanical significance located on the outskirts of Alcalá del Júcar. It consists of a woodland of Portuguese Oaks (Quercus faginea), a Mediterranean species that finds a suitable microclimate for its development in this area.
This ecosystem serves as a biodiversity sanctuary amidst the predominantly agricultural landscape of La Manchuela. The marcescent leaves of the oaks offer a vibrant display of colours during autumn and winter, turning from green to ochre and remaining on the branches until the new buds appear in spring.
The “Tollo” environment is typically associated with areas where water accumulates or flows seasonally, encouraging a diverse range of flora and fauna. It is an ideal spot for environmental education and leisurely hiking, allowing visitors to appreciate the richness of the native forests that once covered much of these Manchegan lands.
