Church and Crypt of St Mary Major (ss. XVII-XVIII)

This church has a long history.
And it took a lot of patience.

It took almost a century to finish.
That is why you can see different styles mixed together.
It is like time left a mark in every corner.

The church was built on top of an old mosque.
First they built the bell tower.
They also built the Roser chapel.

But when they put on the roof, part of the church collapsed.
Can you believe it?
After all that work, they had to start again.

So they built a buttress over the main canal.
This helped support the apse.
And it helped prevent another collapse.
