FOUNTAIN OF “LA SALUD”
This is a recreational area located on the outskirts of the town, at the exit towards Villar del Arzobispo. This garden environment houses a fountain that was erected in 1922 in honor of the municipality’s patron saint, “la virgen de la Salud” (Virgin of Health). It was renovated in 1956 and later, in 1973, the ceramic altarpiece was replaced, made up of 12 tiles arranged in 4 rows of 3, measuring about 20 x 20 cm.
The recreational space is decorated with several millstones and wine and olive presses and has a barbecue and rest area, as well as another more recent fountain that commemorates the passage of King James I The Conqueror through the town of Alcublas, as stated in the Llibre dels fets (Book of facts).
During the Reconquest, when passing through Alcublas, James I received the notice that the muslims had their army prepared in Llíria to stop his advance. Thanks to this warning, the king turned north to avoid the ambush and continue the conquest towards El Puig until he finally reached Valencia. For this reason, Jaime I gave the municipality of Alcublas the image of the Virgin of Health, who became its patron saint.
