Crypt of Saint Mary
The crypt is under the church.
It was built because the ground is uneven.
This means there is a difference in height.
From here you can see semicircular arches.
These are rounded arches.
The arches allow passage under a buttress.
A buttress is a wall that supports the building.
This space has two functions:
- To support the apse of the church
- To allow water to pass through a channel
The apse is the back part of the church.
The channel carries water.
This place shows an important idea:
Oliva has learned to live with water.
The town builds over it without losing balance.
