Cradle

Art Nouveau-style brush, made of beech wood curved using the technique patented by Michael Thonet in 1852. The wood, previously treated with glue, was exposed to a steam bath to soften it and forced its shape by moulds. This production system did not require a specialization of the operators, and allowed chain manufacturing, which reduced production costs and allowed the marketing of products with an original design at low cost. Child mortality was high, so marriages often had many children. Although the mother was responsible for raising, the parental authority fell to the father, who also exercised legal guardianship over his wife.
