Legend of the Holy Cross
The legend tells the story
of some peasants who went to Mahoya
to collect water from the ChÃcamo River.
Near there, they found
a box with wooden splinters
joined together.
Together, they decided to take it
to the church in Abanilla.
The peasants noticed that the cross
disappeared and reappeared
in the same place
where they first found it.
For this reason, the people of the village
built a hermitage
where the Holy Cross appeared.
