Holy Cross

The Holy Cross is a reliquary
in the shape of a Christian cross.
This cross is the patroness
and guide of the Christian faith in Abanilla.

The Holy Cross is kept all the year
in the chapel of the Church of Saint Joshep.

During the festivals in May and September,
the people of the town take the Holy Cross
to the street and celebrate a pilgrimage.

This pilgrimage has two routes:

• One that goes from Abanilla to Mahoya.
  Mahoya is a nearby village to Abanilla.
• And another that goes from Mahoya to Abanilla.
