PARK OF THE HERMITAGE OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

On a hill at the edge of the urban area of Abengibre stands the Park of the Hermitage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Taking advantage of the natural slope of the hill, a garden has been created on different terraces, inviting visitors to walk, rest, or enjoy the magnificent views of the town and its surroundings from the viewpoints. The hermitage is a small building, with a single rectangular floor, a gabled roof, and oriented from north to south. Inside, it has a small altar. The main façade is finished with two triangular pinnacles on pilasters and, in the centre, a bell gable with a semicircular arch that holds the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The image of Saint Michael “el chico” is brought here in August, remaining until the following May. Popular festivities are held on both dates. At the foot of the hill is the municipal swimming pool, very popular in summer, with a bar-terrace ideal for summer evenings. In the same area are the boreholes and drinking water reservoirs that supply the municipality.
