ABENGIBRE

Abengibre is a small and peaceful village located northeast of Albacete, in the heart of La Manchuela region, 45 minutes from the capital, 1 hour and 30 minutes from Valencia, and 2 hours from Alicante.
Its Arab origin not only gives the municipality its name but also explains its location: it overlooks the plain on one side and, on the other, faces the gorge of the Arroyo de Abengibre (known as La Cañada), which flows into the Júcar River. Its charming urban layout includes adarves, alleyways, and narrow, winding streets that provide shelter from the scorching summer and the cold winter, as well as a close relationship with water, used in terraced orchards, ponds, fountains, and still-active washhouses.
Another important treasure of Abengibre is its natural surroundings. The Arroyo de Abengibre has created a varied landscape with interesting geological formations, ravines of great natural and scenic value, and tollos such as those of Cerro del Tesoro, Era de Piedra, or Fuensanta.
And, of course, its Alardes of Moors and Christians stand out, unique in Spain, held at the end of September in honour of Saint Michael, the town’s patron saint.
