Wool Route

Among the various Camino de Santiago routes, the Ruta de la Lana (the Wool Route) stands out. This path links the city of Alicante with Burgos and passes directly through Alatoz. The section of the Wool Route in Alatoz traverses the Vallejo del Hontanar via the Vereda Real del Hontanar (the Alpera Road), leading travellers through beautiful landscapes. Along the way, one can still see the ruins of an old coaching inn (Venta Los Blasotes) and the cart ruts carved into the rocky sections of the path by wagons from centuries past.

Walking this stretch allows pilgrims to immerse themselves in the history of transhumance and ancient trade, while enjoying a landscape of great natural beauty and tranquillity. The route is well-signposted, offering pilgrims and hikers an authentic experience in touch with the land. Alatoz thus becomes a hospitable stopover where travellers can rest and discover the local culture. This resource not only boosts active tourism but also highlights the region’s historical importance as a place of transit and a meeting point for diverse cultures throughout the centuries.
