ALCALÁ DEL JÚCAR BULLRING
This is a truly singular building, ingeniously utilising the space between the crags. The structure is adapted to the natural rock formations, with a peculiar architectural feature: all the walls are constructed using rammed earth (tapial) set upon a limestone rubble masonry plinth. Due to the limited space available for its construction, the arena features an unusual oval, almost circular, floor plan.
The Bullring, which is now municipally owned, remains in active use. It serves as the venue for the bullfighting events held during the August festivals in honour of San Lorenzo (7th–15th August). Notable highlights include the desencajonada (the unloading of the bulls) and the subsequent encierros (bull runs), which wind through the narrow village lanes before finishing at the Bullring.
Visits to the Bullring are conducted by staff from the local Tourist Office.
