Aguiló Castle-House
At the end of the 14th century, the Muslim alquería of Petrés passed into the hands of the Aguiló family as a noble lordship. During the 15th and 16th centuries, this family experienced a remarkable social and economic rise, as well as royal privileges, which became reflected in several constructions in Petrés, such as the castle-palace. The building erected in this period had a predominantly residential character, although it included defensive elements such as walls and battlements.
The castle is built with masonry reinforced with blue-stone ashlar blocks at the corners. The building has a general inverted-T floor plan. It was made up of two structures: the first corresponded to the residential area of the castle-palace, with two storeys arranged around a courtyard; the second consisted of the stables and a large cistern.
