This square is one of the most iconic places in Buñol; it gained importance in the mid-19th century, due to the construction of the new Camí Real de les Cabrilles, completed in 1847. Around today’s square several inns or mesones (Venta Blanca, Venta Pilar and Venta de Vista Alegre) were established and the square also hosted a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. The arrival of the railway in Buñol in 1883 and the obligation to continue the journey —until 1887— by road to the Venta Mina station boosted commercial activity in Las Ventas.
The current layout of the square corresponds to an urban-remodelling carried out in the 1990s and in 2013 the tunnel was built that allowed the removal of the railway level crossing. Today the square is one of the hubs of Buñol’s social life.
