The Chozo Roscao

The Chozo Roscao is a jewel of Cenizate’s ethnographic heritage and an exceptional example of traditional dry stone architecture. These circular structures were traditionally used by shepherds and farmers as shelters from the elements during long working days in the fields.

The construction technique, based on layering stones without any form of mortar, culminates in a dome or “false vault” that demonstrates ancestral architectural ingenuity. This site serves as a direct link to the pastoral and agricultural past of La Manchuela, reminding us of an era of self-sufficiency and arduous manual labour.

Its preservation is essential for understanding the social history of the region, functioning as an open-air museum that pays tribute to folk wisdom and the human ability to inhabit the landscape in a harmonious and functional way.
