Spa building
The Romans built the spa building
in the time of Caesar Augustus.
Caesar Augustus was an emperor
who ruled between the 1st century before Christ born
and the 1st century after Christ born.
The Romans made the spa out of stone.
Because of its location, they had to carve
the stone directly on site.
The Romans used it for bathing.
The building has several important parts:
• The pool:
It was carved out of rock and separated
from the rest of the building by arches.
• The perimeter corridor:
This is the corridor that surrounds the building.
• The tripartite chevet:
It has three parts: two rectangular rooms
and a nymphaeum in the centre.
• The entrance:
This is the entrance to the building.
• The enclosing wall:
The wall protects the building
from heavy rain.
• The pond:
This is a water deposit
that distributes the water in the building.
