Hermitage of San Antón (Saint Anthony)
The hermitage of Saint Anthony
is the newest hermitage in Fortuna.
In this hermitage is the figure of Saint Anthony
throughout the year.
At Easter, the hermitage celebrates
a very special festivity for Fortuna.
This festivity is known as
the Burial of the Reclining Christ
The Reclining Christ is also known
as The Bed.
This festivity simulates the farewell
between Reclining Christ and
the Our Lady of Sorrows.
For three times, people take the thrones of
Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows
and raise and lower them.
This represents the moment
when the Mother says goodbye to her Son.
Afterwards, Christ enters
into the hermitage of Saint Anthony
The hermitage of Saint Anthony
becomes an special place during Holy Week.
On Holy Saturday, the Reclining Christ
is exposed in the hermitage.
The neighbours of Fortuna go to the hermitage
to pray and leave flowers on the throne.
On Resurrection Sunday,
the Reclining Christ becomes the Resurrected Christ
and goes out in a procession.
Before the procession begins, the villagers
make the Pledge of Allegiance
and the people celebrate by saying:
Long live the Risen Child!
Afterwards, the procession continues
to the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Along the way, the procession stops at various points
at several points to repeat this act.
