Hermitage of San Roque (Saint Roch)
The Hermitage of Saint Roch
is from the beginning of the 17th century.
It is the first church in Fortuna.
The building has a rectangular shape
and small chapels.
On the main altar
there is a figure of Saint Roch.
In this place, the people used to
meet to talk about important issues.
For example: the purchase of a piece of land
or the election of the mayor.
In 1628, the town of Fortuna
received the Carta Puebla (Town Charter)
in the hermitage.
Before that, mass was only celebrated once a year.
On that day, the parish priest of the church of Saint Michael
would come.
The church of Saint Michael
is in the city of Murcia.
On that day all the religious ceremonies took place.
For example: weddings, communions
or funerals, among others.
