The Hermitage of Ribera de Cubas

The Hermitage of Ribera de Cubas is located in a setting of exceptional beauty beside the Júcar River, in the hamlet from which it takes its name. This temple is unique due to its direct link with the fluvial environment and the lives of those who historically inhabited the caves and banks of the valley.

The hermitage is the focal point of one of the region’s most traditional romerías (religious pilgrimages), where the community gathers to celebrate an identity deeply tied to the water and irrigated agriculture. Its location within the valley provides a lush, green landscape and a distinct microclimate that contrasts sharply with the aridity of the upper plateau. It is a cultural and religious landmark that highlights the diversity of Jorquera, showing how spirituality adapts to different geographical settings and serving as a symbol of unity between the townspeople and the residents of the nearby hamlets.
