INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES MEMORIAL
The International Brigades Memorial Museum in Madrigueras is an exhibition space dedicated to the memory of the volunteers from more than 35 countries who took part in the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1938. Located in a restored former municipal slaughterhouse, the centre highlights the importance of Madrigueras as one of the main locations during the stay of the brigades in Spain.
The visit is organised into several rooms that allow visitors to understand their history through photographs, documents, audiovisual material and original objects. Particularly noteworthy is the recreation of the former cells of the town’s church, where brigadists left inscriptions and drawings, as well as a central room with projections and historical materials.
The exhibition is completed with content about the departure of the brigades and their presence in Madrigueras, offering an overall view of this historical episode. In addition, the memorial is periodically updated, making it a dynamic and constantly evolving centre.
