The Castle-Convent of Santa María de Montesa

The Castle-Convent of Santa María de Montesa is a historic fortress and convent built in the 14th century. It originally combined defensive and religious elements. It was the nerve centre of the Order of Montesa, a military order created to protect Valencian territory from Muslim incursions. The complex suffered serious damage during the earthquake of 1748, leaving it partially in ruins. Today, it is an Asset of Cultural Interest and an important tourist and archaeological site, reflecting the rich history and cultural heritage of the Valencian region.
