And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means “Place of the Skull”, they gave him vinegar mixed gall to drink; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucidied him, they divided his gasrments among themselves, casting lots, so that what was spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled: “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots”. And sitting down they kept watch over him there. And they placed above his head the written charge against him: “THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS”. Then they crucified two thieves with him, one on the right and one on the left.
And those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross”. In the same way, the chief priests, with the scribes, the Pharisees, and the elders, mocked him, saying: “He saved others, but he cannot save himself; if he is the King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusted in God; let God rescue him now if He wants him- for he said, “I am the Son of God”. Even the thieves who were crucified with him insulted him the same way.
