Chocolate vassel
The first news of the manufacture of chocolate in Torrent can be found as early as the 17th century. It was a family business that was carried out in the same houses where it was lived, where the dependencies located around the pen had been adapted as workshops. In the electoral census of 1869 there are 42 chocolate makers, in 1926 there were 42 bakeries, increasing their number to 54 in 1939. In all cases they were small manufacturers that offered an artisan product. The most typical form was the “bollet”, a chocolate made with a paste based on cocoa, rice flour, cocoa butter, sugar and vanilla, which was modeled in the form of pure. Its name is due to the fact that girls and boys drank this chocolate inside a loaf of bread, although it was also consumed hot, mixed with water or milk in a clay chocolate maker, like this one.
