Perol
One of the region’s craft trades was that of the peroler (pot-maker). Historically, perolería (pot-making) has been a very important activity in Alaquàs. The first documentary references to the existence of this trade in the municipality date back to the 16th century. During the 18th century, there is documentation of the existence of a potters’ guild. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were 12 potters’ guilds in Alaquàs, but from the second half of the century onwards, the activity was reduced due to a sharp drop in demand as a result of the introduction of other more modern appliances into homes, such as the pressure cooker, steel pans, etc., and due to the high increase in the cost of the craftsman’s labour.
