The Church of Saint Gregory the Great
The Church of Saint Gregory the Great (San Gregorio Magno) is the most significant religious building in Navas de Jorquera and a cornerstone of its historical heritage.
Dedicated to the town’s patron saint, the temple is noted for its solid and balanced architecture. Its soaring tower serves as a key visual landmark, with its bell tower visible from all four points of the compass. It is the heart of local devotion and home to the town’s most deeply-rooted traditions, such as the unique processions in honour of the Patron Saints, Saint Eleutherius and Saint Liberatus. During these celebrations, a distinctive local custom sees the faithful pass three times beneath the processional stands (andas).
The preservation of this building is vital to the identity of the people of Navas de Jorquera, who see it as a testament to their past and a place of community spirit that has witnessed the most significant events in local history over the years.
