WALLS AND ENTRANCES

The walls tell us the story of the castle. During the last third of the 12th century and the first half of the 13th century, they were built using the rammed earth technique.
They measured about 10 meters high and 2 meters wide, with a wall-walk at the top used by soldiers to patrol and guard the surroundings.
The main enclosure of the castle, the alcazaba, had eight square turrets projecting from the walls to make them stronger. Today, two of them remain inside the north gate.
After the castle was granted to James II at the beginning of the 14th century, the walls were expanded and a new triangular-shaped tower was built, adapted to the different needs of the time.
