SQUARE OR “TRIMMED” TOWER

Inside the alcazaba, to the left of the current entrance stands the Islamic tower, separated from the wall. This was done intentionally so that it could defend itself independently in case of danger.
Although today it measures about 11 or 12 meters, originally it may have reached 20 meters in height. Its doorway is elevated, about 2 meters above ground, accessible by a staircase or movable ramp that could be removed in case of attack or other necessity, making it safer.
Besides being a military tower, it is remarkable for its special decoration.
On its outer façades, there is a plaster coating that imitates stone blocks (false ashlar joints). On one of these lines there is an Arabic graffiti that reads: “The power of God / the strength of God / the rest in God…”.
