INTERNAL ROOMS

(MAIN KEEP)

Inside the walled enclosure, remains are still preserved that show us what daily life was like during both Muslim and Christian periods.
During the Almohad period, the castle was not permanently inhabited; it was used only as a refuge in times of danger. People lived along the valley, where they cultivated the land and grazed their herds.
At the beginning of the 14th century, on the site of the old albacar, a small Christian settlement emerged, with houses built for the peasants and a small chapel dedicated to an ancient image of Saint Mary Magdalene.
In the upper part of the fortress, the alcazaba, lived the rulers and the military guard; today, one can still see the kitchens with their ovens, the mill, storerooms, halls, and water cisterns.
