CASARABONELA CASTLE

At the highest point of Casarabonela’s historic quarter, watching over the village since time immemorial, stands the Castle of Casarabonela, a fortress that preserves centuries of history, memory, and legend. Its silhouette, perfectly integrated into the village skyline, recalls the Andalusi past of this Málaga town.

Of Arab origin, the castle was a key piece in Al-Andalus’ defensive system, controlling access to the Guadalhorce Valley and the coast. Although today only some sections of wall and restored towers remain from the original enclosure, its presence is still powerful—especially at sunset, when the light bathes the stone in golden hues.
