SOURCE OF THE MOLINOS RIVER
The source of the Molinos River, located in the municipality of Istán, is a place of great beauty set on the southern slope of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park. In the past, it was of vital importance for flour mills, and today it still supplies traditional terraced orchards.
Climbing up Calvario Street, past the sports center, you reach a crossroads where, by taking the left path and walking about 500 meters, you will be surprised by the presence of this spring. Benches and picnic areas have been installed, creating a new recreational and tourist space.
The Molinos River spring emerges from Sierra Blanca, in an area known as El Charco del Canalón, where crystal-clear water gushes from the heart of the mountains, fed by underground aquifers. It flows among rocks covered with vegetation such as oleanders, alders, ash trees, and willows, before continuing its course toward the dam, where it becomes a great waterfall and joins the Verde River.
