MILL MUSEUM
The Mill Museum of Ojén, located on Charcas Street, is an 18th–19th century hydraulic mill recently restored. On the ground floor, visitors can see the original machinery—millstones, press, and water turbine—that vividly demonstrates how olive oil was once extracted using the power of water. Live demonstrations of the mechanism in action allow visitors to understand the traditional process of creating the local “liquid gold.”
On the upper floor is a room dedicated to Ojén’s famous aguardiente (anisette), with informative panels, stills, historical photographs, and even one of the original bottles preserved by the Town Hall. This liquor achieved international fame between the 19th and 20th centuries, represented by artists such as Picasso and even mentioned by writers like Cela.
The museum also occasionally hosts temporary exhibitions of photography and local art. Admission is free, and it is open from Tuesday to Saturday (10:00–16:00). It is a must-visit to connect with the agricultural and cultural traditions of the Sierra de las Nieves.
