LOS QUEJIGALES RECREATIVE AREA
The Los Quejigales plateau is located at more than 1,200 meters above sea level at the foot of the so-called Cañadas de Ronda —three valleys (del Cuerno, de Enmedio, and de las Ánimas) that shelter the Ronda pinsapar, the oldest Spanish fir forest in existence, as well as the mountain gall oak, a type of Mediterranean oak that abounds in this area and gives the site its name. It is a privileged place due to its ecological richness, mountain vegetation, and biodiversity. Thanks to its altitude, it enjoys a microclimate that has allowed the preservation of valuable plant and animal species, some of them endemic. It is also the starting point of the Quejigales–Torrecilla trail.
Traditionally, Los Quejigales and its surroundings were used by local inhabitants for extensive livestock farming and the collection of forest resources. Over time, and with the growth of environmental awareness, the area was recognized for its high ecological value and began receiving special protection.
The recreational area is equipped with wooden tables and benches, parking spaces (including bus access), running water, built-in barbecues with roofs, and restrooms. In addition, Los Quejigales is a controlled camping area managed by the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía).
