CANDELABRA SPANISH FIR
The Candelabra Spanish Fir is a unique specimen of Abies pinsapo located in the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, near Yunquera, Málaga. Its name comes from its unusual shape: instead of the typical pyramidal silhouette, its branches extend horizontally and then rise upward, resembling a candelabra. This morphology usually occurs in older trees that have lost their central crown due to natural causes such as snow, wind, or disease, allowing the lateral branches to grow vertically.
The tree stands at approximately 1,353 meters above sea level, near the Puerto del Saucillo, and is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. It can be visited via several trails starting from Yunquera, many of which pass through dense Spanish fir forests and ecologically valuable areas. The surroundings of the Candelabra Spanish Fir are dominated by fir forests, accompanied by gall oaks, holm oaks, and other Mediterranean species. This tree stands out not only for its peculiar appearance but also for its value as a symbol of biodiversity and the conservation of Andalusian mountain ecosystems.
