Baró d’Herbers House

Inspired by the Renaissance, nobles and bourgeois families built their residences along this street.

This house, dating from 1716 and much altered over time, is known as “El Palacio.” It hosted important figures such as King Charles IV and his family.

In 1830, it was purchased by Rafael Ram de Viu y Pueyo, Baron of Herbers, a prominent Carlist military leader from Aragon. He lived here temporarily and managed to attract several locals from Vinaròs to his cause. He eventually commanded more than 1,000 men before being executed in 1833.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the building became the headquarters of the Ateneo Mercantil, a social and cultural center of that time.
