Historic Xàbia
hermitage of Saint John and 18th-19th Century CementeryThe Hermitage of Saint John is one of Xàbia’s oldest monuments (15th-16th centuries). After several centuries as a hermitage, in 1817 it became the funeral chapel of the then-new cemetery, located right beside it. Archaeological excavations carried out in 2010 uncovered 30 graves dated between 1817 and 1849. Several funeral ceramic panels, originally from the chapel, were also found; these have been restored and reinstalled in the hermitage.
