The Port

Church of the Virgin of Loreto

It was built on the site of a former chapel erected in 1914, dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto. It stands out for the bold design of its lines and the spatial concept. The materials used are reinforced concrete (cement and iron). It has a single nave with an oval floor plan. The walls have no corners and open outward at the top, ending in small windows that allow in zenithal light, creating an atmosphere of reflection and spirituality. Its roof, made of red pine wood and shaped like a ship’s keel, represents the fisherman’s boat (a biblical symbol). On the outside, twelve slender pillars support the structure, symbolizing the twelve apostles. It was inaugurated in 1967.
