Escalier

This staircase was installed in 1957.
It has between 190 and 200 steps.
It connects the Town Hall of Abanilla with
the Monument to the Sacred Heart.

The Monument to the Sacred Heart
is located in Lugar Alto.
Before the monument was built,
there was an Arab castle in Lugar Alto hill.
In addition to the castle, near it were:

• A aljama.
• A mosque.
• A Maqbara.
• A Lonja.

After the Christian conquest,
in the 16th century, several things were built
on the remains of the Arab castle
and nearby areas:

• The Church of San Benito.
• A Christian cemetery.
• A Town Hall.
